There is no question putting up a sim for sale that has taken over 5 years to develop has gotta be tough.
Think about all the payrolls, the days and nights... and then some little ferret wants to acquire it by bootleg sites. My thinking is... at this point of course. I trust Oleg to make sense of all the nonsense, protect his product and not destroy our computer systems. I still won't buy the LockOn anything, because of the spyware thing. Then of course I never cared much for the sim. I'm not into Jets, one big Crimea map and shooting down enemies you can't see or have any real contact with does rate high with me. So... if I was into the jets and stuff I might put up with all the starforce/starwars stuff. I'm a die in the woods WW2 combat flight simmer. I like the close in your face combat with non-sophisticated weapons. Enough speed, boom an noise to have a good time. I'll support just about anyway Oleg wants to do it. I've never gotten any junk from him...except one session of starforce in PE-2. |

The point that I am trying to make is that you have a limited amount of install's that you are allowed to make for Black Shark, need more install's 2 years out?? then you will need to buy another copy...I don't know about you guy's, but I am alway's re-installing my OS and game's.
How many times have you installed IL-2, or your operating system?? I hope that SOW does not have any such limitation's on re-installing the game

I'll do the download option...BUT...only if the game isn't crazilly restricted by some insane DRM scheme.
There's been enough backlash for people to hopefully figure it out....even EA who I have to say has not been so kind over the years has figured it out to some degree at least. I recently bought RA3 and they have been nice enough to make a tool available for you to manage your installs. So if you uninstall your install you still have 5 installs left. None of this...5 installs and thats it BS.

Here is an example: The download version of rFactor was released years ago, you get 5 activations. But when you activate it, there is a license file in your hard drive that you simply back up. When you reinstall the game for whatever reason, reformatting or whatever, you simply place the license file back to your hard drive in it's correct place and the game is activated just like it was before, and you won't lose another activation. So in effect you will never use more than one activation no matter how many times you install the game. Even if by some miracle you did use up all of your activations, all you have to do is contact customer support and you'll get another 5 activations for free. I'm not saying that this is how SoW will be handled but I see no reason why it wouldn't be. There's really no need to be scared off by a download version of a game, with or without activations. You won't have to buy the game several times. Last edited by mrsiCkstar; 02-22-2009 at 08:02 PM. |

I just found this article about the success of steam.
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/News/137...for-steam.aspx Economically I expect downloads are better for the developer. My problem is I love phoning around the shops trying to find the first place I can go to pick up a new released game. I love the excitement as I drive home with the box next to me , reading it at traffic lights. What I hate is waiting and extra three or four weeks after release before it hits the shelves in my town. While people on forums like this tell us about how great it is! Hmmmm! What a dilemma. |

Download with an online registration to download/install patches and addons: so if the game doesn't recognize your copy simply your game will remain bugged (because it's sure that it'll have bugs)...
Something like the old GTR... But IMO the most important thing is having a private lobby (something like "Company of Heroes").

Iit is odd that they had continued to esteem these qualities over those of other fighters in spite of the fact that they were of only secondary importance tactically. Thus it is doubly ironic that the Spitfire’s reputation would habitually be established by reference to archaic, non-tactical criteria. |

Scott has let me download the BOB 3 times since. I kept a copy of my email and I just include it with my email to him and he lets me download. Heck, it sounds dumb, I can't keep up with original DL file to save me. These game devs know they are asking you to do a pain in the arse thing, buying a DL file. The tradeoff is accomodating guys like me over time is still better than have the torrents rip them off for a half million copies. If you want Blackshark tell them your concerns before you buy. I'll bet they'll be more than willing to help you out, if you lost the original DL. |

I have done both, and I must say that I prefer having a hard copy in my hand.

Yes some good point's made, I sure don't want the game being ripped off, and 1C loosing any sale's. But there is something special about a tangible flight sim, or any game for that matter...I think its the picture and booklet, and the ability to re-install without a hassel
