Great job, and thanks for following through for us all even if it took a little longer then most of the community expected.

Totally worth the wait!

Maybe I'm drunk, but the game seems to load faster, and run smoother with in 4.12.

I'm very happy/impressed. Love the subtle changes.

The B1-6 still has unlimited power when out of fuel and using the ramjets, though.

And NIGHT time is still WAY too dark (the method by which night is rendered using the alpha channel (transparency) of the blackout effect is not a great implementation). At least, this is how I perceive it's accomplished.

By the way, I have HSFX and am able to easily disable it and installed 4.12 with no problems; but maybe because I do not use the auto-updater. I can explain how if anyone is interested (via PM).

I also now have created a MOD that brings it back to stock 4.11.1, then I can apply HSFX, etc. (DT.dll, files.sfs, fb_3do24.SFS, fb_maps18.SFS is all you need to backup/restore from 4.11.1 to 4.12.). The other SFS files are ignored with 4.11.1.

I've never, in 12 years have had more than one installation of IL2. Now, I realize with DBW and UP that might be a problem, but HSFX is pretty clean and easy (although I despise auto-updaters).

Hi Tolwyn! Yes, I noticed that too, but unmodded installs are always quicker to load than modded so whether it's any quicker than stock 4.11.1 I wouldn't be able to tell you....

Can't agree with you here mate - I think the darkness is spot on given that it was reported in a host of veterans stories that some nights you couldn't see a damn thing, horizon or otherwise. In some situations it might even be too light still in game IMHO but that's just my two cents.

I agree. Night flying in this game is as tricky as it ought to be. If anything, it sometimes isn't dark enough as you can almost always see a bit of sunlight glowing past the horizon, no matter how late it is.

Clear, full moon nights is another matter, however...

I should have been more careful.
The Dark is okay... BUT EVERYTHING is dark across the board. It's like they put up this large black graphic and just turned down the opacity of it. The PIT, with lights on, should be much brighter. The OUTSIDE part is okay. But the method by which they MAKE it dark (the "trick" they use) seems off to me.

The thing I'm really diggin' now, in addition to everything else, is the new impact effects of rounds hitting an aircraft, especially the "knocking-the-dust-off" effects. So far I've only used the guns on the LaGG-3, BF-109F2, and F4F-3 Wildcats and it all looks very cool, and gives the experience an authentic feel.

Very much appreciate the reduced impact flash effects for smaller caliber rounds, and also the reduction of the "green Corn Flakes" debris trail following behind an aircraft being shot. The over-the-top nature of that and the flash effects always annoyed me in previous versions of the game.
