Spider no loss without Magic Spring ?

@razor : then cyclop it is, seems a good choice. Transmute +2 does not work, killing spiders is a real bad idea as they are spawned in bigger packs as soon as they are killed. So I never hit spider, and if I do in the 1st counter attacks, I can kill at the best 15 to 20 units. 20x2 = 40. + my 80 mana this is no 650 mana...

But the spikes idea is just wonderful !!!! I will try it just now and come back, I have the spell !

It won't work with spikes. The boss attack the spikes sometimes then will spawn the spiders.
The spawn spiders are hero-leadership related. I think.

It is really rare but it indeed happens : the spider attacks the spikes...
My luck is that I have a lot of call of nature scrolls.
Each spike destroyed I summon a small creature. For instance it does not works, but I will find the way, the boss just went 8K HP at the 8th attempt !

With your leadership and IF you got the phantom scroll i would go with trolls, royal snakes, maidens, bersereks ,and jarls. Second turn go berserek with.. bersereks on boss

I tried doing the ice spike trick, but couldn't get them to fill up the board fast enough before the spider summons would destroy them. Admittedly, I had a full team so it might have been harder to maneuver.

Also, I wonder if that would drain away his mana reserves too fast too?

Well, I think he wanted to do phantom with the berserkers which might work but it seems expensive manawise.

Had the spider down to 3k then it killed a troll with one shot.
I used 5/1 trolls. Will try it again.
With 4/1/1 i run out of mana before getting him below 6k. Will try it with stoneskin 1 (3 mana instead of 5).
I give up tries with 6 trolls + 5 jotuns. Below 10k you must heal jotuns every turn.
Important:
1. there are much more new spiders if they were attacked. I don't attack any spawned spider.
2. spider boss changes position clockwise. Attack stack should be most right at spider to get fast to new location when spider boss moves.
3. all units should stay at a position where only 2 adjacent spiders can attack.

I'm sure 5/1/1 would succeed but how to get this leadership?
Now i'm thinking about iceball. Will test it this night too.

You can do it with a fairly standard army no loss.

Army:
Trolls, unsplit
Warrior maidens, split into 2
2x damage stacks, or 1 tank + 1 damage

Trolls tank and slowly damage the spider. Call of nature right in-front of the spider is also a good idea. Warrior maidens resurrect anything that dies. Other stacks clean up spiders and can hit the big spider if you have a revive handy.

Congrats! How did you manage to get to level 20 though as Soothsayer on impossible? Seemed sort of difficult unless you had an Ancient Knowledge Scroll?
