Looking at these pictures I just have to say... this sim looks awesome!
![]() A majority here alway complains about the dumbed down graphics since the rewrite. I agreed with that in most parts refering to the former game versions. But these pics now look quite mature. Apart from that cloud shadows and high clouds are back. The canopy reflections are more intense as well I think. The lighting effects during dusk/dawn are fine. I am wondering what is now still missing compared to the release version? Just out of my head I could only list the following: - reflections of clouds/planes etc in the water below (which looked gorgeous, but also a bit unrealistic dont you think? at least in this intensity) - morning fog over the landscape - small calibre hit decals!!! Did I miss something? In my opinion the game now looks stunning and overall I'm satisfied graphics-wise. Correct me if I am wrong! ![]() |

There used to be a lighting effect on the planes that made them look more real and connected to their environment. If you look at the front half of the wings and the lower sides of the fuselage of the plane in the picture below, you can see the reflections there that show the effect. Those parts of the plane are in shadow but are still lit up a little bit by ambient light in the planes surroundings. It's no longer in the game and as a result the planes look more flat and artificial. It's probably regarded as trivial and low priority (like navigation and landing lights) but those sort of details can really add up and make the game a lot more immersive and realistic, for some people anyway. You can see the effect in action (and in original colour) in this video at 00:15 and 00:38. (It's easier to see when watching in expanded view on Youtube. Just noticed too there are lots of cloud reflections in the water as well in that video ![]() Last edited by Les; 10-11-2012 at 09:02 PM. |

ah I see, thanks Les! Its not totally eye-catching on first sight, so I must have missed it in the early days or just forgot about it
![]() But you're right, it adds a lot to the atmosphere allthough it is more like a unconcious perception |

Regarding the long vertical pictures, have you tried imgur.com?

I haven't tried them, but going by their FAQ info their file size limit is lower than Imageshack's, they also have a lower view-it-or-lose-it threshold too. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. If I do more of those kinds of images I'll try lowering the image quality to reduce the file size, as I didn't even think to do that before.

.
With the new patch RC2 and a Spitfire MKIa 100oct I have tried and did get to 28100 feet of altitude without any difficulties, without exploding my engine by fiddling with the rudder trim and the pitch, mixture, radiator opening, here is a picture to attest it (add 1000 mb ); http://s13.postimage.org/4zdxiq547/s...012_223612.png http://postimage.org/image/vx7ukgpr7/ It took me 43 minutes from take of at Upavon to landing at Manston. ![]() Last edited by senseispcc; 10-12-2012 at 09:06 PM. |

Tryst me. It's day and night. This new lighting engine makes everything look like it's viewed through sun glasses....and a bad pair of sun glasses. Dawn and dusk colors are pitiful. All that beautiful orange light, giving such nice natural orqnge hue to everything from clouds, to water, to grass and fields, was replaced with a murky dark gray mess. ![]() Reflections are almost gone. The cockpits and skins lost a lot of the natral look. Just ask the skiners how bad did this 'new' engine mess up the colors on older skins. Shadows cloud shadows, and the subtle way shadows affected reflections are also gone. The best way to see the difference is to find an older version and try it yourself. It's like going ten years back in time. This is what you get when a lighting engine calibrated by a professionl photographer is "fixed" by artisticly impaired computer programers, that didn't see a sunset out in the country in a too long time. Let me remind you what we had: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
