Definitely true over a year ago robteK, but I run my 27" (native 1920x1200) at 1680x1050 with no noticeable impact on performance and the picture is still stunning. The 8xAA I run doesn't hide the dots at distance the way the higher resolution does. But that's just me.

I took your advice and purchased a new audio card. I bought a Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional. I got a slight boost in performance, and the sound quality has improved 10x.
