Perhaps video settings are the problem. Try that and see if it works.

I have left all the settings as they were before, I will wait to see if others have noticed a difference before messing about with settings etc.

If I remember correctly, the settings are defaulted with each update since I know that difficulty settings were reset in another patch so just open the video settings just to be sure. Ok?
