I believe all measurements in the sim are in metres: Plane convergence settings, icon distance, dotrange etc.

The only time its different is in RAF aircraft where gunsights are set in yards (could also affect RAF bombsights, not sure). Decide on your preferred shooting range, say 200yds. This converts to 183 metres which is what you set in the Plane Gunsight convergence. In the Hurri or Spitfire cockpit set the gunsight range to 200yds. Don't forget to set the wingspan too, default is 30 feet (Me 109 is 32 feet - I think all wingspans are in the manual).

EDIT: ooops I missed Robo's post. Same story.

Is it possible that the German planes is in feet?...I don't think you can save a value below 100, whatever 100 is...you see I would like to set to 70M

If you mean convergence, the RAF gunsight range will only go down to 150 yds (164m). You can set wingspan from 30 feet upwards.

If you are setting range to 70m then just get right in close, fill the circle (Bf109), squeeze the trigger and close your eyes

Convergence is in the plane setup menu, with gun belting.

Wingspan is a setting of the gunsight, you must do it while in the cockpit, by playing with the knobs below the reflector gunsight.

Cheers,
Ins

From early days I wrote down on a post it note the wingspan measurements of the enemy aircraft in COD and stuck it on my monitor.

It surprising how quickly you remember these measurements when looking at them everyday. But it was also reasuring having them there to act as an aid memoir.

As regards convergence, whilst being interview a few years ago Pete Brothers from 32 Sqn said that he would have his convergence set at 50 yards which is an amazingly short distance.

He said that he would make surprise attacks, get right up close and then blast away, having to do this to make up for the poor knock down power of the .303 rifle round that made up the Brit ammo in his Hurri.

The Brit RAF command did not like this idea,in 1939 the std convergence was 400 yards, which obviously carried over into 1940.I think they allowed the aces to do as they pleased and would turn a blind eye to this practice.
