think about this, what does il2 1946 have that Cliffs of Dover dont??A meeting place!!!A community where pilots can talk, chat, and compare fps,settings,etc..If i dont see pilots in servers just like most are saying here.i either play single player or join the most populated one i can find and usually will fly for a bit, get bored and move on to another game.CloD does NOT have a meeting place!!
Il2 would NOT have survived 10 years without it.1st we had UBI lobby wich was an ok starting point for muiltyplayer experience. Then one day I found Hyperlobby and never looked back, not even once.In my opinion and this is "just" my opinion with all the support that HL has with the community CloD would be far more advanced and fixed and a lot more players if everyone would use a lobby or meeting place such as HL.Am i trying to endorse Hyperlobby? Yes i am.Lets give credit where it is due.Il2 would not have survived this long with out a community.Cliffs of Dover NEVER should have went with "Steam"...It "should" have went to the place where it belongs with a more dedicated community. And i am NOT just saying this because of myself being part of HL staff. "CloD" should have had hyperlobby on the box cover NOT steam. What it all comes down to is that CloD needs more than just a "server" list.it needs friends a common meeting ground, a place to thrive!

can i get an Amen??

Hey ... Woodstock

Phew.... its been a tough few days trying to get a "community spirit" going here as it seems to be very insular experience with CoD.

Hyperlobby has a great community and has always been the place to fly IL2.

Steam seems to have created a void between users, so the forum here is one place to come for advice and help, and possibly teamspeak servers that are in use for servers hosting CoD can offer help.

Hopefully once CoD gets off the ground properly with more varied flying experiences available from CooP and DF servers, we will se more in the CoD section of HL

Many servers now have this feature through steam - For Example:

ATAG (In their community Team speak)

and

5./JG27 Public (on our forum page.) http://www.5jg27.net/

Its the same thing. The only thing steam doesnt have is the chat.

the thing Steam doesn't have is a live community like HL does.

HL used to have a community, perhaps. But it certainly does not any more and likely never will again.

People have a lot of nostalgia for HL but quite frankly if you look at it from an objective perspective, putting aside your emotions it's plain to see that HL is a sub-par program.

The game's got a built-in lobby. If it had a chat feature that connected to an IRC channel it would be infinitely superior. Why do we need a 3rd-party external lobby that doesn't show accurate player numbers if people direct-connect and whose chat is 99% full of trolling anyways?

HL is a relic of the past struggling to maintain relevancy.

So where are the 500 or so IL2 1946 pilots meeting & flying from these days ?

Its server well over 10 years as a support, meeting, recruitment place.

It looks like it will keep going.

Maybe for 1946 it will. For CLOD though, I doubt it. 500 pilots is a shadow of the former online population.

Objectively speaking, what is good about HL? Other than the chat, what does HL have that an ingame lobby doesn't?

Agreed there used to be 1000+

Some will argue the numbers halved after the mod packs arrived, some will argue the mod kept the game alive.

Numbers tell us that the v4.11 revived the IL2 1946 online community, users are coming back to stock CooP's and Df servers.

HL has a section for CoD I use it to host from there's a few in there right now.

HL is a point of contact for other pilots to interact outside of the game before any-things launched, so mission and tactics can be discussed also general information exchange can take place about squad or individuals activity including recruitment.

So generally necessary if you want to be part of a community, if you just want to hop in a server and fly around shooting stuff and not be part of anything bigger that's up to you.
