It's not as bad as it first seems. Can I ask what aircraft you normally fly? If you are going to be sticking with a single-engine type for the first little while, you can skip a LOT of controls.

You're correct that this is the "general" forum. Most folks will answer your question here and I don't think people mind when questions get asked here, but it's probably best to at least try to put questions in relevant subforums if only for the reason that it makes it easy for other people with the same question as you to search for answers in the future.

Pilot's Lounge is mostly for off-topic stuff and political garbage.

Technical threads is for anything technical, for example threads about controls, drivers, errors, patches, trackIR and alternatives, game crashes, etc.

Controls threads, Vehicle and Terrain threads, Performance threads, and FM/DM threads are the sub-sub-forums under Technical. Note that "Performance" is for the actual game performance (framerates, etc) whereas "FM/DM" is for the performance of the aircraft within the game.

FMB, Mission & Campaign builder Discussions is for, you guessed it, mission and campaign building using the FMB (full mission builder).

Gameplay questions threads is for things that are less technical than "Technical Threads", and it's here where you might go for advice on how to fly a particular maneuver or how to complete a particular mission.

Some are rather self-explanatory:

Mods, discussions, links, etc. is for discussing CLOD mods (obviously).

Skins and Repaints for BOB COD is where the skinners all hang out

Movie Making and Videos is where you would go to publicize or get help for any movies you might be making.

CoD Multiplayer tends to encompass "server advertising" threads, balance discussions and its fair share of flame wars.

CoD download, installation and activation threads is typically where people post and ask for advice relating to actually installing the game (Steam can be confusing if you're not used to it).

It has been quite some time since I have flown IL2 1946.
I want to say the Spitfire was one of my favorites, seems like the P40 as well I got some time in.

All you really need to get started are radiator/oil cooler controls, gear up/down, weapon 1 and weapon 2, fuel cock #1 toggle (does the spit have 2 fuel cocks?), prop pitch, elevator trim, and boost cut-out in addition to your ailerons/elevator/rudder/throttle controls.

A lot of Allied guys also bind open/close canopy to somewhere convenient, as the canopies can restrict your view a fair amount (less of a problem in the spit than the hurri).

Thanks for that, that will certainly help me in getting started with the mapping controls part of this.

Np. You'll probably want to talk to someone who actually flies spitfires full time, as I'm a 109/110 guy and only fly the RAF birds on occasion. I'm sure there are tricks that I don't know about.

Sorry about all the fighting/aggression on the boards at the moment. Be patient with certain members. Be patient with the developers. Be patient waiting for patches. One day, hopefully soon, everyone will be much more content and actually start discussing and debating like normal people.

You seem like a nice guy, the sort I for one would like to see stick around.

No need to apologize and thanks for the compliment!
I am just a flight simmer that loves the sport and enjoys sharing with others on dedicated forums for this great hobby, both things I may have learned- obviously in this sim I am a long way from that part - and things others can help with.

I can easily look over the " noise" , was just a little surprised by how much I saw going on here upon arriving. That was one main reason I wanted to make sure I posted in the appropriate forums, to get the best exposure and maybe some good feedback amist the turmoil so to speak

I am one that will pretty much always choose to stay out of the " noise", just not my cup of tea. At least you guys have a forum here, where there is some feedback from the developers - maybe not as much as some would like - but there are many developers these days, that choose to not participate any longer, in any forum. Quite a stretch from how it used to be in the old days, when so many big name developers were very active , both in forums and in newsgroups.

Thanks again ,and to the others that have responded, certainly has given me that warm welcome feeling! I look forward to communicating somewhat with everyone going forward.
