Ok, i'll take this opportunity to ask from people playing this, what is the status of the game? I bought this year ago, and put it on the shelf as it wasn't really playable in my opinion at that time. So i've been thinking about wheter I should commit the time to start learning this now..

So how is it, is it much more complete now than it was upon release or how playable it actually is now?

For the vast majority it's more playable than at release.
There's a bad bug, tho, introduced last patch, that crashes the online game for almost everyone.
There are way to delay the crash and it usually works ok in fighters, but is a lot more freqvent in bombers, specially if we try to fly formations.
Offline the game was always solid for me, except when I was fooling around with the weather in full mission builder.

If you do not enjoy hitting the ground in someone's back yard, then the game is not for you

The playability answer will depend in part on your PC spec, at least until the next patch is released that is supposed to improve the graphics performance considerably. So post your specs so we can give you an idea.

I don't usually play off-line although I have played a few missions and they do try do shoot me down but not in a very determined way. Perhaps you can set the enemy to Veteran or Ace?

If you want to be sure the enemy will shoot at you fly on line and as Osprey said join a squad or at least get onto Teamspeak where you'll find people are very helpful.

the irony of this game is people complaining of the game not being realistic

if you complained of the graphics i would understand

but that

that would be like ender complaining of the game not being realistic
