I always thought that the wingtip smoke was a bit pointless in the old game.
After all, none of the aircraft modelled had this.

I'd much prefer having navigation and landing lights prior to something as, well, frivolous as wingtip smoke.

Good thing you're not god! Because, believe it or not, other people have their own wants and opinions as well. Wingtip smoke was cool for formation flying, training friends how to do maneuvers, and looking cool.

There is always something (especially with this mess of a game) that could have a higher priority, but odds are neither of them are going to get done. Enjoy BOM!

Well I'm terribly sorry that my post caused you such trauma. Anal retention is a terrible affliction. But you'd know that already, given your preferred mount.

I know that its not realistic, and of course I would love also to have navigation lights and other realistic stuff.
But there are a lot of people that used wingtip smoke for training, for check how well they were performing in offline mode while learning and for show maneuvers even in online video tutorials very clearly. For all that it was a wonderful option. Of course nobody go to combat with his wingtip smoke on. It even could be set as a realism option for beginners, so in the track you can analyze very nicely how you perform in a dogfight against IA, for example.

It was always kind of a cheat though, don't you think? No real pilots have smoke to track their efficiency in any given manoeuvre (except the professional aerobatic pilots).

The only use I've seen for it in the past was for some online server's rules, whereby if you had your smoke on, you were landing and therefore couldn't be shot at.

Also, to make nice videos of yourself doing aerobatics. Don't get me wrong, I've done all of the above myself and enjoyed every minute, but I don't think it's got a place in the 'next generation' of combat flight sims.

Real pilots also do their flying in a real airplane.

You are right in almost every word you said, but... we are not real pilots. I´m of these guys who like everything as realistic as it can get... when flying realistic. When learning all help is welcome. Otherwise you can ask also for removal the flying circles from the tutorial mission or completely removal for the non cockpit option, and so on... but all these are good for newbies and no so newbies that want to learn quickly even cheating . Good tools for learning and training fit perfectly in a next generation combat flight as in any other. Also not every time you fly you do for combat, there are people who like racing or formation flying. So, If wingtip smoke is set as an option, I don´t see the problem here but a great tool.

Smoke is quite important for training, ask the squads or the newbie schools.
I think it's great, maybe they should make it a server setting though.
