I think I might need to revert to the older drivers -- the frame rate was quite good initially.

Dxdiag tells you the total memory the video card is using, i.e. including not only the total video memory but also the shared system memory.

To see your 512MB of VRAM you should go to the advanced display properties, by right clicking the desktop etc.
