i dont think its reflection you are seeking. you are seeking a powerfull graphic shader to represent the split second flash. a specular flash. Ive played with the idea months back within the current shader at that state of development. and i think we should have a little somthing extra implemented over and above the current specular implementation. and it should definelty be very dependant on light direction. however whilst this was an observation method im sceptical about how often it could be used given how angle dependant it and weather permitting the function is. its more of a chance occurance leading to an outcome than a strategic method leading to a kill. because to use it strategically would involve already knowing where the enemy is located, theoretically.

I saw a glint off a Spitfire's wind screen online last night.
Looked really good too. However, I think there are bigger fish to fry at this point.

that's the way you spot enemy aircraft in rof, mostly when you lose them against the terrain

I can deal with no reflections... especially when we are struggling to keep decent FPM's at the current state.

Why is it whenever someone comes up with a new development idea/request, a large portion of all respondents on this forum come up with a "don't bother with this until they fix the other stuff" response?
Think about this for a minute. Developing code takes time. The largest percentage of effort always goes to the stuff that's months away, not weeks away. If the ideas that you want to see next year - are not placed "in the hopper" - then basically, you don't run a good chance of ever seeing them. In other words, making requests now - produces results next year - not anytime soon. Because a user has a brilliant idea on the forum, it never means that current efforts are abandoned to implement that idea. Bottom line is, Squelching new ideas does not help produce fixes to your current problems faster. Negativity toward a new idea, only sends the message that the idea is not an important feature. As to the OP's suggestion - Brilliant. Without specular features in the visual model, low level bombers will never have to worry about being spotted on a map. Easy points. The density of the ground textures, and the paucity of real world physics workarounds - have created a very unnaturally low vis environment under VFR conditions. 19 to 1 says the "silent majority" gets it too. If this is introduced then, and when fps allow for it, this kind of glares should be added too to other objects, like houses, cars, etc... when flying you see a lot of these in cities and urban areas... etc

S!
Funny that even Mig Alley from Rowan had cockpit glints from shiny surface..and that was ages ago! Sure nothing compared to today's standards but anyway. Was the first sign of Mig15's when a glint of their shiny fuselages was seen at distance..oh the times As of CoD. Agreed with Gunny that features should be taken into consideration to be implemented later on AFTER the GFX engine is sorted out and they can start using it to the full. Now we have something that is not that tweaked or ready, but working at least. |
