Ok, I have some test results.

I replaced the 'mg_snd_sse.dll' file from 4.09 with the one from 4.08. I then ran a long (over 2 1\2 hours) test session. Normally, I would have had some freezes and eventually a total lockup by then. However, I had no problems at all.

I'll continue to use the dll from 4.08 and see if IL-2 continues to run normally.

Make sure you desk top res and game res are the same when running the high end settings with the new dlls.

I had my desktop set to 1920x1200 24" LCD and my 2nd screen at 1600x1200 refresh rate at 80 " it a 21" CRT " When I didn't have both screens set to 1600x1200 at 60 refresh rate " max for the LCD " it would lock up and crash if I had to Alt Tab out.

This could also be a problem for other testing the 4.09.

After setting both to the 1600x1200 " same as i use in game " the problem went away.

As for the sound I'm using Vista 64 and and X-Fi Gamer with the latest drivers and they are working great. I love the new sounds.

I cannot confirm this. I run my desktop @1280x1024 and IL2 @1600x1200 and I switch between desktop and IL2 pretty often to answer ICQ. I got an nVidia 8800GTS, though.

It could be a non issue if you desk top is LOWER setting than the game were mine was at a higher setting.

Asus 7900GS with NGO 1.16.218 drivers and Core2 6300 CPU. Running at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 16XAF

Had some weird issues with 4.09 dll’s.

-In one session above Pearl Harbor my FPS would plummet to very low when I was looking straight down above water (=3) in my cockpit or from the outside view . Ended the mission, closed the game, restarted the game and the mission again and the problem was gone.

-Have flickering of the dark openings of the hangars above Pearl.

-Cannot use 8xS AA because of strange spike like reflections in the water (=3)on the horizon.

Still using the March dll's.

The problem I have running Sli with 2x8800GTS is that I get a flickering shadow on the water's surface when any boats are on it.

I also had a really bad pulsing like each frame was slightly darker and lighter, only minutely, but it looked like the whole scene was flickering.

So I turned the SLi option from render next frame to split render each screen, and that has now gone, totally fixed. However the shadows on the water look awful as they just flicker like they are interlaced on a TV...if that makes sense.

Smile Good News

I run a clean 4.09beta install with the patches and never had any of all the problems that have been mentioned since when these drivers were put online, except for:

1) Flickering shadows with SLI but this is not an issue any more as I went back to a non SLI solution.

2) Blinking polygons exactly as mentioned in this thread. It was only seldom (so not too much disturbing) and light blue flicker. I did not have white or other polygons flicker except on the fuselage and with shades of light blue.

But I have good news even excellent news. After very testing in the pacific theater with various airplanes and also with the track KI versus B24 I can confirm that with the Nvidia GeForce GTX280 board from Asus running drivers WHQL 177.41 there is no more flickering polygons at all. I can even say that the tvisual exture rendition quality on Hellcats for example are excellent. But it is true that I use very high settings.

Crazyivan now you "only" (maybe with some help from Nvidia) have to check what is the difference between these new drivers and other drivers for 8800 boards (before I had a 8800 ULTRA with drivers WHQL 175.19) and you probably may find the solution.
