Default Noob Multiplayer Issues

Hi, was quite a dab hand at IL2 1946 online coops but am having real difficulty getting my head around multiplayer in CoD.

All I want to do initially is get online with 1 buddy in 2 x cold, dark Spits parked at any airfield. We will then just fly around a bit, nothing fancy.

Last week we spent 2 hours trying to make this work. Both of us tried hosting/creating a server in both the Lobby and also the other area - forget what it's called. Sometimes one of us could see the other, sometimes not, but what we could never achieve is both of us appearing in game together. Really frustrating.

Any help much appreciated - thanks.

It's quite straight forward actually, pick chosen server, left click on mouse over server, then there will be a little time before you connect.

Then choose via flag what side you want to fly for, choose on map what given airfield you will fly from, from here on choose your aircraft, and then hit the button 'Create'and voila, you're in.

Hope this helps,see you online

Agree. It makes it easier for the new pilot to figure out how to have a go though IMO, but it would be nice if the number of players, at the very least, were broken down next to the flags (reds and blues) when you join a server.

Thanks for this, but what if I just want to play with my buddy? If I join an existing server there'll be others there too shooting me down left right and centre.

You might try creating a game in the lobby instead of the server. Also you can password protect your game.
Also the host must open port 27016.

Thanks Troll,

We did try using the lobby, but without any luck ... but you may well have the answer with that port number. Will check that and report back. If only the manual gave some proper instructions on all this!

Also, in the server options window, there's a panel called 'Parts' with core.100 and bob.100 in it, with options to add and remove them. What on earth are these?!?

Cheers

Steam may need other ports open as well. Check Steam server FAQ in case you have problems yet or just open all ports for BOTH steam and launcher.exe.
