Make sure the source at the top of the server browser window says internet and not lan.

Also in your network options set your speed to DSL/cable and not lan.

actually i have a similar question.
A few buddies of mine and I recently got the game. We want to play online together, but just us, with nobody else, like not in a public server. How do i go about in doing this?

Um, unless you have a Cray, you don't.

Hosting and playing on the same computer doesn't work like it did in IL2. The new sim is just too demanding.

I run a Core2Quad, 6gb RAM, and our squad can all play together with no lag (other than Europe to America connections being slow). I've had up to 11 people playing while I was during mission tests.

I have similar specs and we're all in US. so i imagine it should work fine.

You might try creating a server an password protect it and have your friends use the direct connect and give them your IP.
