and the fuel use is only tied to throttle possition

If you think about it- fuel use would be tied to throttle position as the throttle controls the amount of fuel into the engine

You may gain more endurance i.e time in the air at low RPM & throttle but would you get more range.

We would need to know the long range cruise speeds and min drag (clean)speeds for each type
