I honestly don't know mate as I have only ever flown CEM, however I think that may be the case
as auto will set the mix, and in CEM if its too rich it burns orange/red and when correct its a loverly blue.

Flame and exhaust smoke are rendered only if CEM enabled because where generated accordingly to piston position, mixture, engine temp, altitude... all parameter that where calculated only with CEM enabled
