The fact that desktop can be seen at anytime when the game has launched means that fullscreen is definitly not working which means Vsync and AA are not working properly too.
When fullscreen works properly you will have to Alt-Tab to see your desktop. When they fix it we will see real the real difference made by AA which I'm sure they will.
