Afaik the siren should be activated when the air-brakes is activated, which it doesn't.

A number of memoires and reports I've read (eg Alfred Price's "Hardest Day") mention that the Horn was often (if not always) removed. Issue being the aircrew felt they were slow enough already and had it removed to reduce drag.

If wikipedia is correct the siren was a short lived attachment at the outbreak of the war.

After the enemy became used to it, they were to be withdrawn. The devices also caused a loss of some 20–25 km/h (10-20 mph) through drag.
