Internal sounds are nice but external engine sounds are not too good. I'm sure we can fix that though

The retardation on these forums is laughable sometimes. Assessing an entire game from horribly compressed youtube videos! Really?

I'm going to tell James Cameron that avatar has horrible HD qualities JUST from watching this crappy 304/144 pixel pirated video camera job I download from a Hong Kong torrent site.

I've felt similar, playing Il-2 for a few years. The droning, low quality sounds really started to grate on the nerves after a while.

However, the problem remains that in order to get quality you first need to find working machines/weapons from that era, sample them well from multiple locations, with an array of mics, and then use someone with a good knowledge of audio and fidelity to mix them down.

Being an audio engineer as a day job, I'd gladly offer the mixdown and processing service, but I neither have the time, means, nor inclination to go out hunting for ancient guns and aircraft to sample!

Either that or one can skimp on the 'authenticity' element, and simply sample close analogues and use them as the processing base instead. The reality is that very few people care about sound - or it's authenticity, even those who fancy themselves hardcore simmers. I'd be happy to make that compromise in order to get some audio beef going on.

and also, why you suppose that sound mods will be possible? cracking the code again? let's give CoD a full development cicle before before starting with this "mod" debate.

And another thing, you guys know someone who can record the real samples with the required equipment for a binaural recording?

Yes, I did fly in the Battle of Britain and after the war played drums in a band. So...I know brownings when I hear them and a snare drum. COD guns sound like a snare drum. My Spit sounded like machine guns when I fingered the firing button. Anything else I can clarify for you...dolt!

You know, there is no rule that says that engine and gun sounds has to sound cool , infact most of the time they're not even close to hollywood or war films and their "cool factor".

Sounds of guns in the planes are pretty much spot on. Also loved the hitting sound of bullets against your own plane -- like stones thrown to a metal plate. Pretty much spot on too. They did a great job as far as I can see in the youtube videos.

My dream to actually fly these planes has come true partly due to the efforts of you and your team. Thanks for all your amazing work and for making this 53 year old kid's dreams come true. I'm sure the finished game will be awsome.
OR A LIARRRRRRRRRRRR!
