EDIT: Ah Jarsalla beat me , It could fly a stable flight, but as you see the hurricane missed more of the wing and eventually went down.
There's more accounts of airplanes returning with big chucks of their plane missing. The reason why they are uncommon is that the pilot often preferred to jump out as soon as he saw something missing, I wouldn't like to attempt a landing in such situation as well...
