I read in a post today a quote from Oleg (cant seem to find it now, maybe was at simhq) that only the IL2 was meant to be flyable in the original.

I do hope we get the Do17 eventually, as it was used in large numbers in BOB.

Yep IL-2 was supposed to be a study sim and not a survey sim like it turned out to be. They added a few more here and there and then suddenly... we have the single largest collection of combat flyable World War II era aircraft ever. It's still shocking to me that we can jump from front to front and cover so much of the air war.

Not sure if we'll ever see this in Cliffs of Dover and moving forward.

This was the aircraft I was thinking of when I posted the thread. I certainly hope it will become one of the flyable's, but maybe they will take the RoF route and maybe it will already be flyable, but payment will be needed in the future to unlock it?

Time will tell?

Cheers, MP

As posted a couple of times, CoD will go the same way IL2 did: Free patches with smaller upgrades and larger addons as payware.

If I'm not mistaken the Do217 quickly replaced the Do17 just after the Battle of Britain was over. Perhaps they will be modeling that bomber instead? There's quite a bit more ground that the 217 covered in the different variations although I can see the draw for the Do17 as an interesting aircraft by itself.

It was originally only going to be the Il-2 variants. Then they added a single variants of the LaGG and Mig-3 respectively. Then the BF-109F-2, P-39N and the Yak-1. Then they added the La-5FN...

No Ju-87 until just before FB, no flyable jets or bi-planes. It took a long time before we saw Emil and Gustav 109s, FW-190A4 Jabos or any twin engined mounts (Oleg originally planned to only offer the top gunner position on bombs as player controllable...)

There were only half-a-dozen aircraft at release - everything else...

Don't expect additional flyable planes with free patches. While I wouldn't rule out a few sub variants like the E4 may be included at some point, a complete new model is highly unlikely to be provided for free from all we've heard so far. Especially if it's a bomber.

There are no indications that additional planes are ready but reserved for DLC. While Oleg may not have the final word on that, he's made it clear that he doesn't want to follow such a business model and sell them individually, but only as part of larger scenario packages.

I wouldn't be so quick to doubt Oleg, Gents. For all we know Africa could be well on it's way to completion.

I remember flying IAR-81 and FW-190D9 online from outside view before they had cockpits.
