I'm thinking: Wow, I'm glad it all went well, but then again, perhaps they all got shot down a few minutes later.

Thanks for sharing

Seen that footage a few times.

Definitely hair raising takeoff conditions but calling it a "near disaster" seems a bit sensational.

good job helping him out with ad block references.

oh wait, you didnt do that, you just took a cheap shot?

your response is a perfect, perfect example of internet forum behaviour.

didnt someone IL2 related once say something about being allergic to these forums....?

after this sim is released, i will leave this place far behind due to people exactly like you staining the experience just too many times.

I too can't decide on whether they are D-9s or Ta-152s.

On the matter of the website

Good to know wat Blip.tv is, so i will never follow a link there again. What an awful site. First this long commercial and when I rewind the piece a bit I get *again* this commercial, and when I hit replay *again*.

May I suggest a site without this nonsense?
Blip.tv was actually good for long videos, because they allow a bigger video duration (hence the commercials to cover the bandwidth costs). I've been watching a certain starcraft2 commentary over there that can run an hour long. It's like watching a football/sports show for a video game, post match analysis type of stuff on 2-3 consecutive games played by professional players (as in, they often get paid to play in tournaments), so the videos tend to run a bit long.

Until youtube started allowing more than 10 minutes of duration per video for non-affiliated uploaders (something to do with preventing the upload of copyrighted material like movies, they now lifted this restriction since they claim their new algorithms can prevent this), sites like blip.tv where the only alternative for broadcasting full fledged web-based shows. If i'm going to sit through a 1 hour clip and have to let it buffer for a bit as well, i won't mind a few seconds of commercials.

Of course, the situation is reversed when you want to watch a 1 minute clip and you have 15 seconds of commercials to sit through

D9s for sure. The video is 16:10, while the original was most likely 4:3. The picture got simply stretched making it appear wings and fuselages being longer then they really were.

According to "Focke-Wulf Fw 190D Camouflage & Markings - Part I" by Marc Deboeck, Eric Larger & Tomas Poruba:

"In this extract from a "Deutsche Wochenschau" newsreel, made in East Prussia in early February 1945, "Yellow 2" of II./JG 6 (is) taking off from a flooded airstrip. The aircraft is armed with an SC 250 bomb on the ETC 504 rack. (...) The W.Nr. can be partially decrypted, 211xx7, and identifies the aircraft as a Focke-Wulf built Dora 9."

Many of the Deutsche Wochenschau newsreels can be downloaded here:

Bit of a right wing site though ...
