It is highly suspected that it is the cause of "no trophies." It is not obvious if this was a design choice (as the defiled demon trophy option is the ONLY one where you can opt out of).

The dialog also implies something will be sacrificed.

Sorry. I ran into this issue too.

Good news is, you really don't need trophies unless you need to get at least one unit early on. Then you can sacrifice your way up (or use diplomacy).
