Be aware that I have worked on them in PhotoShop. The original colours are different. You can download the original pics for free now that Google have put all (?) the life archive on the net. They do take a bit of finding though (can't remember my search terms - sorry). The originals are also larger. I have re-sized them to fit my SimHQ thread. There is one more colour pic of a Spit from the same photo shoot. It is also in the SimHQ thread. Hope you enjoy the read!

Edit: here are the original file names from when I downloaded these pics from the Life archive:

If anybody finds any more from this series please let me know.

RedToo.
I took them from another site actually, I can't remember which one..they must have taken the links from simHQ.
Sorry for stealing them.

I hope you won't mind if I reproduce the third one from the series here.

No problem MS. Just found the title and photographer of the Life shoot:

Daylight Fighter Sweep by William Vandivert

Off to continue searching!

It's not BoB era, but it's a beautiful shot! I''d say this is late 1940 (or late October 1940) to early 1941. The pilot appears to be wearing a 1941 pattern mae west. It may be the BoB 1932 pattern, but the colour looks off (unless he doped the whole thing yellow)
Also, the white-band on the spits fuselage didn't appear in the BoB I don't think

But man these are some great shots. I can remember seeing them in a life magazine from the period
