Game Won't Start

I had the same thing happen. I think that there may be two problems, but I am still playing with it.

1. If I disable my firewall and anti-virus the game will load, but it still sits on that first black screen for a couple minutes with a static sound before I get the initial 1C screen.
2. If I try to change the resolution it goes to the black screen and does not recover. The ATI site is down so I have been unable to check for a newer video driver. (Possible fix in post #4 below)

If you get any answers from support post them here if you can. May save the rest of us having to do it.
