Edal,

I am very sorry it had to come to this, and I share your disappointment. You have put a huge effort into this tournament, and the idea behind it is still brilliant. Once again a big thanks to you.

It's very generous of you to even hand out prices, of course I'd love to have a P-47 but cannot access the store in Malta.

On a more happy note, I have spoken to the publishers about the sponsoring of a future tournament, and they said yes. They obviously have realized the momentum your tournaments have created for their product.

There is a future for tournaments here on IL-2 Birds of Prey, and I hope we can work together to create another one some time.

Best,

MACADEMIC

no need to hand out prizes mate - and its a shame it had to end like this - but all in all u did one hell of a job organizing these tourneys. It really gave this game and community the push it needed to stay alive.

I kno I havent played alot of match in this tournament (never was enough raf pilots or i was too drunk to fly when the timing was right) but it gave us the chance to meet and get some really nice flights with our fellow ussr pilots - and it also filled the games lobbys so any newbe that tried this game online for the first time would actually find some games and get to meet some great peeps.

again great job my friend, all this wasnt done in vain
Cheers

This is what I expected, as team USSR was on continuously from 6pm to 1am gmt on wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday - 5 days in a row - and not once did team UK accept a match, even during the rare times when enough of them including an officer were online.

There's a word in war for refusing to fight: surrender. Even in a game, it's still called quitting. Team USSR showed up to fight and team UK did not, and that's victory by forfeit.

Thanks team VVS for all the hard work and tactical preparation. You all were amazingly motivated.

Now for a competition that will work. I'm partial to a ladder-type system with 3 or 4 player teams.

Want help to set it up?
To be honest i think that this failed because there were no set times for battles meaning people were to laid back.. If only that could be changed!

Kudos to Edal for trying this...but I think it's failing was the game's inherent unbalance towards Russian planes. At the start there were a lot of matches going on, but I think the UK players, whether they realised it or not, just got fed up of being owned by superior LAs. And of course newer game releases give the perfect excuse.

Just my $0.02, to help any future tourneys avoid a similar fate...

For the record, I spend about 50-60 hours per week in the office for my job, not to mention additional time during nights and weekends. 6pm - 1am GMT is 12pm to 7pm in my time zone... I don't even get home from work until 7pm.

As I stated in a previous post, life has been exceptionally busy as of late. I simply did not have the time to keep up with this. In fact, I think I only managed to play BoP twice in the past few weeks (once being disconnected due to my internet connection taking a poo on me).

Edal, I'm sorry man. Looking back, I shouldn't have signed up for this one. I'll accept responsibility for not being present on behalf of the UK team. More important things took priority over the past month. Sometimes, it's just the way it works.

See ya around guys.

edit: if you saw me playing Beatles Rock Band, well, it the only game my GF likes.

Default The Irony of it all is...

...that all of a sudden plenty of new motivated sim players are showing up every evening. I would not be surprised if some of them got more interested in flying sim because of the tournament.

If only Edal would have kept it going a little longer...
