I used to run Forgotten Battles on my old Athlon 1.0 GHz, with Geforce 2 GTS with a whole 64MB of ram on the GPU (I remember that Sturmovik used to crash after a random time, and FB would crash reliably after two hours and some number of minutes (I never did time it exactly to find out what the number of minutes was)). I could play at 1600 x 1200 on that, since I had a pretty decent monitor.

I built that computer in 2000.

I built a new PC in 2005 for Pacific Fighters, it was an Athlon64 3000 (actual clock speed 1.8GHz) with DDR memory and a Radeon X800 pro, I don't think it was really needed for IL*2 after all, though other games certainly required it.

IL*2 1946 will run on anything half way modern, though you're probably better off with a graphics card that's a bit ahead of a Geforce 2 GTS.

Igo kyu, the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB DDR is better than a Geforce 3 card. Also, IL-2 Sturmovik never crashes on me, ever!.

Sure, but not by a huge amount. Graphics cards are fairly cheap at the moment, getting one to match that CPU would not cost the Earth. Even if you're stuck with AGP it's probably worth doing, and if you have a PCIe graphics slot it's dead easy.

Have a look here to see what's what:

Yeah, I had a dodgy RAM SIM . I don't think I knew at the time, or maybe I did, but it was faster with the dodgy stick in than out.

I got my copy of IL-2 Sturmovik: FB Gold Pack . I'm really liking FB, but I have a problem. Out of the box Forgotten Battles is version 1.0, I downloaded and installed patch/upgrade v1.0 to v1.22 and installed it. I'm also using a No-CD rts.dll file which works great!. The problem is with the sound, I tried many different settings but nothing helps.

In IL-2 Sturmovik (original) the sound was awesome!, but in FB the sounds I was accustom to hearing, aren't there anymore. Sounds like flak bursting around my plane and shells whizzing past, are no more. The engine sounds are great, but I don't hear the rockets when fired, nor do I hear bombs being released. Bullets hitting my plane are faint, if I crash next to the enemy I can hear their engines and can also hear AAA firing but the whizzing doesn't exist.

I can't see the No-CD rts.dll file being the problem, I also use a No-CD rts.dll for IL-2 Sturmovik (no it's not the same one I'm using for FB).

I'm using the latest drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer.

Turning off 'enable extensions' doesn't fix the problem and causes static to be heard.
