The deadzone in X360 controllers is not to do with the game. It is due to the way the X360 handles the input from the potentiometers in the controller. I suspect that the purpose of the deadzone is to aviod the need controller calibration.

So I guess we will have to live with it.

Alternative tips for a fix of your throttle:
-Adjust mecanically the position of the pot relative to the throttle handle.
-Adjust the pot value by connecting a 100k (in that ballpark) resistor between the centre tap and the 2V tap of the pot.
