Nice tip, tried it immediatly and it works (setting the desktop at 1280x800 gave me access to 1440x900 to, aswell as 1680x1050 and 1920x1200).
But... i also get
awfull shimmering, even with AA set to 8x ingame. And about smooth gameplay...i would like to see that. What else have you turned up besides shadows?
