Ya...I know. A sort of bait-&-switch bone being tossed, but it's something at least.

and? They at least manage to supply the community with what is needed to finally give the chance to experience the new maps in the way their creators wanted it. The poor Slovakia, Bessarabia and MTO chaps have had their work restrictedly released nearly a year ago.

Not to mention the rumored new aircraft (Avia B534 for example) which were apparently developed for this release but now seem unlikely to appear.

As far as the mods go they have created a strong online community and even inspired a revival of sorts in the online gaming and amongst the online squads. That is an excellent thing and I congratulation them.

However I strongly suspect the great mass of IL2 users just buy the game, apply the latest official patch and then never bother with mods, posting on forums or mucking about with online play.

To say 4.09 is unnecessary because the few elite online users have mods now seriously underestimates the number of people that still play the game patched but unmodded.

You can say that for 100% offliners, but as soon as you get online and spent 5 mins in HL you'll get the idea that there is something beyond the official patchs rather quickly.

Unhappy

Mods might be the way to go for the individual, but getting a Sqd or a whole airforce ready to participate in a modded warserver is hell.

For the last month I have spendt over 50% of my online time helping people in 'my' airforce.
There are many among the veteran pilots out @ HL that know almost nothing on what goes on behind the desktop of their computers.

I would prefer streight 4.09 servers to the modded ones.

More flying time.

Maddox is keeping it in reserve. He will suddenly pop the official 4.09 out when RoF is released to prevent too many people drifting away. It's business. Be sure.

my semi informed opinion is that 4.09 will be out before xmass 08 for sure, we'll see if i am right or not soon enough

my speculation is based on a few posts i saw on some of the major il2 forums in the lat few weeks, indicating some people had supplied new skins etc to be included with the 4.09 patch, and they had a fixed deadline to submit them, end of november i think.

i might be reading to much into those posts, but i think it fits in with some of olegs previous released files, and he might want to meet the xmass deadline.

time will tell

Don't forget, more than a year passed between the last skins deadline and their eventual implementation in 4.09b....
