So there it is, confirmation for the head tracking in GT5 - I'm assuming Sony should now make available the API to allow head tracking with the playstation eye for PS3 games. So Anton, any chance of this in future update? This in my opinion would complete this game's "feel" and more people would enjoy the extra immersion it gives. Note: Please, forum members, no comments about how this won't work because you think you won't be looking at the screen when using head tracking - read up on Track-IR before posting silly comments like that. |

I think it would help more in a flying game, where you need to look all around ( especially on sim mode ), than in a driving game, where your eyes are pretty much gonna be on the road right in front of you.

I hate head tracking for the reason that it feels completely unnatural. You look with your eyes not your head, but with trackIR you have to move your head and keep your eyes on the TV, it feels weird. And you have to keep you head still while your playing other wise the view is all over the place.

Nah head tracking plus high def goggles = 360 degree head rotational freedom of win.

Those will never work. Your eyes can't focus on a screen 2 inches away for very long and the pixels would have to be microscopic. The smallest 1080P monitor is still 28" diagonally.

Here are options in order of how natural they are. 1. Best - Head mounted display with 6 dof tracking, completely natural - problem: good ones currently cost many thousands of dollars 2. Middle - head tracking (track-IR, playstation eye, natal) - yea, you move your head and not your eyes - but you get used to it and it works great. 3. Bad - separate analogue stick on throttle (not on stick)- completely disorienting at best but better than on stick because it doesn't interfere with precision of flying. 4. Worst - options we have now, gamepad solution is painful to use, analogue on joysticks end up screwing with your flying because the same hand is controling the view and flying the plane - disorienting. For right now I'd take the minor fault of track-IR type view control. It's the best option right now when you factor in the costs of HMD displays. |
