Default Female Paladin

There are a few things I need to convey first. To begin with, I haven't been able to find any modding documentation anywhere. Assuming Katauri took a "material speaks for itself" approach, I had to dig into data files and intuit their functionality.

Secondly, they've made an incredible title. It's deceptively simple, but packed with continuous day's worth of playtime. That said, when I first picked it up last sunday, I was extremely disappointed when I discovered there were no female characters available. Noting the upcoming sequel "Armored Princess", I downloaded the Russian demo and proceeded with my plan to have King's Bounty: The Legend with a female character. Thankfully, that plan worked.

This is little more than a swapping of program resources.

You can do this yourself using the same method I did. It is important to note that, while I wouldn't mind creating a mod file, lacking the proper documentation for modding I cannot do so without errors. Therefore, you'll just have to hit it at the source: the actual game data files (which is what I did). Do so at your own risk and don't forget to backup.

Interesting enough, those "KFS" files appear to be little more than zip files. So open them with WinRAR (or pick your poison) and drop the corresponding files, from the archive I'm posting, into the appropriate locations.

Those of you interested in modding, the game uses Lua for scripting logic and plain text files for data sets. Media files are located in the \data folder and scripts/txts are in the \sessions\base\ses.kfs file. I found it because I went looking last night to fix Invisibility. Didn't seem right that the more expensive version of a spell had a lower proportional return in value than a lower spell.

Anyway, enjoy the female paladin. Cheers!

very nice, I downloaded the file and will attempt to implement soon. Too bad there is pretty much no active members here any longer. You can see that by the 42 reads and zero responses this thread has accumulated.

I think, though I'm just going on an educated guess, that the lack of support for modifying the files by the developer (mostly due to the fact they speak Russian) has heavily subdued the interest by competent modders. Russian or not, there had to have been some of the team that spoke English but yet there was not much help in at least this forum.

I really don't think I'll buy Armored Princess as I am only level 15 in KB:TL and already try to avoid most battles. Not nearly as easy to retain troops as it was in HOMM series as it takes entirely too long to travel back and forth to Darion to get decent troops. Maybe AP will be different, I haven't tried to find out yet

No, the reason no one is on anymore is the game has been out since september, and in the intervening time everyone has stopped checking the site. Maybe they got bored, maybe they moved on to other games, maybe they decided that everything about the game has been said already, but I am one of the few people still active (though much less than I used to be) who joined back at the beginning of the forum. Add to that the fact that new people are few and far between and are less likely to know about modding. Incidentally, I personally know nothing about modding, I'm just explaining the lack of comments.

Anyways, Props to Atriace, and all the work s/he (I'm guessing she since a girl would be more likely to want to play a female character, and rightly so) has done to do this mod. EDIT: and a picture of a girl as his or her avatar. Wait, why am I analyzing this so much?
