Default Help needed: quad core installation.

Hi all

I just bought me a brandnew quad core machine with asus rampage formula MB and a heavyweight g-force gtx.

Now i need some installation guide for 1946, because i never used a multi core pc before.

OS is MS Vista ( i know, i know)

As Pilots hardware i have a saitek x52 and ch pro pedals, both used without problems on my old pc.

And now, to make it a challenge, i have very rudimentary PC knowledge, my profession is flying and airplane technique. So please, make an " installation guide for dummies".

Thankalot

You don't need an installation guide.

Just install 1946 and fly. You can force 1946 to use 4 cores (8 with i7) but as IL2 is 10 years old and never was optimized for multi-core/CPU you will get no big performance gain with this game.

Infact you may decrease playability by forcing 4/8 cores, because IL2 might start to stutter if you do so.

You also do NOT want to try to install the sim to its default location. It' development was also prior to Vista and if you don't change it, they don't play nice together.

True.

But I wouldn't install games on the windows-partition on any version, honestly.

Thumbs up

Just put the disk one in the cd-divd drive and let it install.

Mine installed in the Programs folder (x86) for 32 bit, even though I am on a 64Bit Vista OS.

The video card will make more difference than your quad.

I have 6600 quad with 4gig low latency ram.

Overclocking is a snap for me with my mobo, but I'm not OC currently.

You've probably read alot of scare stories, but just not the case.

I suggest you check out ubisoft.com community help if you have any issues. The boards are still very active over there.

When I installed this sim on my Vista Home Premium 64-bit, I had to use the "a.exe"-file on the DVD to install. The regular setup didn't work for me. Never figured out why.

Hello Loopalot,

My advice is to burn a DVD on your old machine of the IL-2 folder and then just copy that to your new computer as stated above. NOT in the "Program Files" folder and not on the OS partition of your new hard drive.

Is this advice also valid for XP, or only for Vista? . Which is the reason?

Thanks

The reason for not using the "Program Files"-folder in Vista is that you can't change the ini-files if it is placed in "Program Files". Thus, you should create a separate folder on C:\ for games, and install IL-2 into that folder. This tip does not apply to Win XP.
