Hello,
I have read and read this forum looking for someone having the same issue so I don't have to repeat what has already been fixed, but I really can't find the exact same problem. I found one that was close and there was a screen shot of the settings in options. I tried this fix, but I was not able to duplicate the exact same settings as my system would not do the same refresh rates on the monitor etc... I tried to get them as close as possible but it did not fix the issue. This is the thread I'm referring to: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=6330 What I'm really wondering is if Atari makes any products that actually work out of the box when you buy them.. I had some serious issues with the game "The Witcher" recently too. Atari still has yet to respond to that E-mail, so I guess I know how they feel about customer service. My copy of Kings Bounty installed fine, no issues there. I also D/L'd and installed the 1.6 Atari patch, that also ran fine. When I start the game, that runs fine. I can get into all of the settings menus and that sort of thing. However, when I click on "New game" and go through those screen's, everything runs great until it loads the first screen of the actual game. Then, it runs for about 2 or 3 seconds, the screen goes black, the cursor becomes a red circle with a red slash mark through it, then the screen flashes several times and my whole system re-boots. My system meets the requirements to run the game, I went through and updated all of the drivers a couple weeks ago when I was struggling with "The Witcher" trying to get that to run. So... Anyone seen this before? And/or know how to fix it? I was going to try to run it without the patch tomorrow and see if that helps any. I get tired of un-installing and re-installing, but it would be nice to play the game once! I wanted to post the copy I have of my directx info, but it says the file is larger than what is allowed in here. Brucifer... Last edited by Brucifer; 03-05-2009 at 09:24 PM. |

DirectX 10 here.
And i wished all my games ran as smoothly as this one. Only crash i ever had was on a bug with Mirabela wich was promptly adressed on the patches. Sorry i can't give any other assistance besides letting you know the directx issue shouldn't be relevant. You should post your specs. Are you on Vista? Wich version? Wich graphic card? How much RAM. If you're having problems with other games, it's usually graphic card related. If you want to give it a try, my definitions are 1440x900, anisotropic filtering 2x, no antialiasing, default refresh rate. Leave the rest of the options as you prefer them. If it doesn't work, then try setting them to a minimum. Also, try emailing this problem to your graphic card manufacturer, they might have a better costumer assistance and be aware of any incompatibilities with those settings. Or google for similar issues with that card. |

The Fallout series allways had tons of bugs, i remember reading about the latest installment not breaking with that tradition. But i also recall there being some decent patches available to fix most issues. Try that if you haven't already.
According to your specs (and your pc age) your problem could be indeed directx related. Carefully check your graphic card drivers on the ATI site to see if they support the latest version of directx. You can take my word for it, that Radeon wasn't built to support anything above 9.0. Either get an update to your drivers or downgrade your directx. Also, i would recommend, requesting help on a hardware forum (techimo.com is pretty good). I'm not a big fan of integrated chipsets, but i'm not an expert on the subject aswell. So if you're considering getting an agp/pci-e card with a decent amount of dedicated memory (wich would be my advice), post your specs and ask around a good forum for suggestions. Overheating and motherboard incompatibilities should be your big concern. If it comes to buying a new one, the cheapest model on the market today will probably be many times better than the one you have. The way things are, consider yourself lucky your Radeon lasted 3 years. ![]() |
