Unsolved recurring issue: Game won't start

I've been reading through the threads trying to find an answer to my problem, and found numerous people having the same issue, but no resolution. Here are the common factors:

- Game installs properly
- All seem to have the D2D downloaded version
- Game is activated successfully
- When we try to run the game, kb.exe goes in the processes in the task manager, uses about 25% of CPU for a while, but nothing happens, and eventually it stops.
- Not sure if everyone has similar config, but it seems the case: Vista 32, nVidia GeForce video card, well above required specs.

So I'm trying to get this thread to be a common one for people with this issue, and perhaps we can get common resolution? In my case:

DX9 is up-to-date, so are all my drivers. No other known issues with my system.
