Default losing troops upon starting a fight

My situation is as follows:

I am in the elf lands with an army consisting of demons, scoffer imps, demonesses, imps, and dyrads.

Before each fight the amount of dryads I have reduces by about 50.

e.g. when walking around the map I have 699, start a fight and I have about 640... and they are gone forever.

I am playing on impossible if this makes any difference.

Has it got anything to do with morale?

Cheers.

Yeah, those evilens can damage your armies just by walking by them.

I'd recommend initiating the quest at the mage tower in the Magic Valley and then carefully explore the Valley of a Thousand Rivers being on the lookout for evilens. If you see monster's near an evilen, just draw them away. After the fight, click to pick up the evilen from a distance and you shouldn't lose any troops as you run over to pick it up.

Oh so it was those evilen things I picked up that did it.. i found 2 so far.

So they only kill your troops if you go near them? but dont constantly drain your troops?

thanks!

they didn't say if you GO NEAR them, they said if you engage a monster near them.

I haven't reached there yet, but this is what they said.

Anyway - make sure (all who enter Elven Lands) NOT to touch the black floating evelins till you don't have in your inventory that funny pet (you will know when you have it)...

A.) I can't confirm that you lose your troops by just being near the evelin or by fighting mosnters near them, but also I can't exclude this option from possible options

B.) I know that evelins should be only in Thousands Rivers map...

So.... if have my attachment opened
1 - here you land
2 - here you get the "eveling eater pet" quest - meaning you get the evelin pet...
Can you see the white line from point 1 to point 2? - this is how you fastest get to your evelin quest [watch for monster !]

Also see points 3 (in red) - these get you to Thousand Rivers map - where you better get first after you have you eveling eating pet... that's for sure!
