Default Sapphiron Egg

I found a portal leading to the dragons, but got scared because I was not strong enough to face dragons yet. So I traveled back through the portal (it was on a floating island in demonis). When I talk to the architect now he just gets mad because I failed, and if I go down to the portal again nothing happens. I cannot get into the dragon place again.

Did I miss my opportunity? Does the portal open only once? Or is it bugged?

The portal opens only once and if you leave you can never go back there.

You will need to reload an earlier save. This is an example of a couple of occasions in the game when you only get one chance at something. The giant fish in Underground Sea is another example.

You don't need to fight anything in Ultrax. It's quite easy to steal the eggs from the dragons and run away.
