Big spider in Ice cave on Isterreng

I have a problem: I have finished off all the enemies on the islands of Nordlig, Vestlig, Fastland, and Isterreng and apparently have to beat the big spider in the ice cave on Isterreng. That's the problem - how do I beat him? I'm on level 18, the hero has 30 attack and 25 defence and I have the following troops: 20 Cannoneers, 17 Soothsayers, 11 Jarls, 38 Axethrowers, and 76 Beserkers. Do you kill all the small spiders first before attempting fighting the big one, or how do you proceed?

He keeps summoning more small spiders, so you have to have some troops deal with them, while others take on the spider. Trolls work great for this, as they heal every turn, so you will not lose any. You can have the trolls tank the spider, while your other troops deal with the summons...

I removed Soothsayers and Slingers from this fight. I find ranged units useless here. So I had Berserkers, Warrior Maidens, Jarls, Royal Snakes and Jotuns. I used only Jotuns and Royal Snakes to tank the big spiders while the rest clean up the summons. I lost about 20% of the snakes and 1 Jotun, and a few of the rest combined...
