Default New Offline Flyer - how to progress?

Ok so not that new, have had the sim since earlier this year, had it installed but did not do much with it until the official patch was released.
Anyway I have now flown pretty much all the quick missions and single missions, at least for the red side, and am ready for something with more depth.

So would the included CLoD campaign be a good way to start? Or should I consider maybe purchasing one of the Desastersoft campaigns? I remember back when I was heavy into IL2, there were some fantastic user made campaigns out there , but I don't see much info here on them so assume they are not so prevalent as they were with the earlier series?

I was also looking forward into getting into and learning CEM, but from what I understand from this forum that is broken for offline flying and only really works for online flying, which is sad.

My system seems to run the sim pretty decent, with the exception when I get into some explosions right in front of me, or into the clouds, then I get stuttering which sounds like is normal for this sim. I am running everything pretty much on high on my graphics settings.

Any tips for offline flying would certainly be appreciated!

probably not, the included RAF campaign is 'pretty poor'- I regard it as little more than a 'tech demo' that got included when time /money ran out.
However there is a 'remake' in the works- just reaching beta stage now

If you can wait a little this will be alot better experience.

there are a variety of user made campaigns out there

or possibly this new one?

They may be designed for more experienced players but why not try the demo for free? (dl link at bottom of page), and make your own mind up

CEM works offline. CoD has a similarity with IL2 in that AI are hard to keep up with- but it is possible. Try keeping rpm at 2600 to keep temps down.

Re overall performance, yes there are places where the sim can 'choke'- some missions worse than others. You can always drop a few graphic settings to help 'raise the fps floor' in these.Switching shadows off, dropping land shading, effects to medium are worth investigating.

Comms 'sort of works' now- just try to forget how IL2 did it

Ok so I enabled FXAA and disabled AA in the sim - definitely less stutters now, and looks better.

Check out missions collection by Heinkill. It is a set of missions that form a campaign together but hosted in a mission section of airwarfare.com .

the best way to progress is to get into ATAG and see how they kill you in seconds...one time after another through months...then one day it will be you the one who kills...that very day you will not want to fly alone any more in AI missions.

Yeah I know, I did some online flying with IL2 and it was very neat - I just really burned myself out on online play some time ago, mainly with racing sims, and have pretty much relegated myself to offline play, not to say I will always remain offline. Should I ever decide to join online again, I will definitely hook up with ATAG as they appear to be class acts.

Thanks,

really enjoying the training aspect, flying on realism a must, theres some great utube vids of this campaign by thewinterowl, he uses the terrain landmarks, forests and rivers to navigate, really good immersion
