In patched version ...mission loads to ~90% and then ......
.... you guessed it .... Windows popup reports Launcher.exe failed ....
the game itself loads, menus are active and all is normal. I select a quick mission and reduce planes to 1 on 1. I've been trying to use firstly the 1.09.xxx and recently 1.10.xxx I've searched, followed tips and read all the various threads I can find. All to no avail.  When I integrity check my installation [via steam] and set it back to 1.05.xxx, the game is fine and all work [medium settings, 2xAA across the board] My PC is old but the game does run acceptably for me. OK, Win7 and a generally better PC solution is on the cards but my current PC, I know, can do the job until then. It is with 1.05.xxx so why the launcher error with the patch update? XP SP3 4 GB RAM installed Athalon 245 at 3GHz GTX550Ti I re-downloaded the patch in case of a dl error etc but always the same error when the selected mission load progress gets to ~90%. I can always get back to normal via the integrity check process [1.05.xxx version] Do I just have to wait for Steam update I guess? Any advice appreciated. Jokerman

Yes, for sure. I've followed the guidance from here
This is so frustrating, I am stuck with 1.05 version which always works following a failed attempt to use the latest patch. Here's hoping when the patch becomes official and released on steam, no further problems occur. Last edited by JokerMan; 10-17-2012 at 09:07 AM. Reason: updated note

Sorry to hear the same.... I've seen a few threads also where XP SP3 players have issues ..... I really hope this is not a signal for the future .....
I do plan an upgrade to Win 7 and generally a better PC but frankly, what I have at the moment is pretty capable. Being unable to take advantage of the patches has been a real disappointment and I'm all out of ideas here apart from the belief that there is some dependency between the patches and my system that is misbehaving. Just no idea what that/they may be! Anyone reading this who knows any tips would be welcome to respond. All pointers direct towards an problem with updating my Official steam version of 1.05.xxx to any of the later patches / RC releases. I personally am confident my HW is good because I have testing it well and have no other problems with other games [or indeed the official Steam version] to support suspecting my HW. The failure for me is always the same. All appears normal, the splash screen notes the version of the game as expected post patching process and I can select from the menu and start a SP mission. I clear caches, rebooted sometimes to make sure that's not an issue, set resolution to very low etc. During the mission load, the progress bar reaches ~90-95% and then a windows OS popup presents telling me the launcher failed! Just had a steam update to game version1.11.xxx and the above problem repeats.
How I cannot play this game on my machine at all Have another other XP SP3 users experienced same. What is the correct way to proceed here ?

I had to actually buy a copy also. Its quite a sting at £125... Worse thing was I already had a keycode but it was OEM and all I needed was a disk...
