Yes and was expected to fly at its limit while they are now restricted to reduce the wear and tear

Yeah you should have mate. I know of a Spitty sitting on the bottom of a lake. Crashed during training. Use to police in the area and it was well known. Unfortunately it can't be lifted. The local Aboriginal people won't allow it.

The bottom one looks like its being dismantled for spares - the prop is bent as if it belly landed and I doubt they'd strip everything including the wings just for a service.
Great pic though. Hood ps the top Spit looks like a 2-seater. Second only to a Merlin-engined Buchon on my all-time list of fugly aircraft. Last edited by Hood; 09-07-2012 at 11:13 AM. |
