Default Please help

I would like to play CLOD on its highest settings via bootcamp on my new iMac. On max settings I get many stutters over buildings and dense forest, I find low settings on both make it playable. All other settings I can play on max. What should I upgrade on my mac to achieve the highest performance on CLOD?

Intel Core i7
Processor 3.4 GHz
4GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6970M VRAM 1024 MB
2560 x 1440 resolution

i think my VRAM might be a bit low

Yes it is mate.

Keep most settings as you have them but not building amount or trees..set them to low/med

You won't get way with them on max with your setup I'm afraid..not until game is fully optimised

And that's a very high Res too

Your res is too high for your video card (which has too low memory btw for this game).

Try setting land detail, landscape shading, forest and special effects on medium or reduce resolution to 1680x1050. It looks great on these settings.

You can run it on max in 1920x1080 (full hd) res more or less with GTX580 3GB vram or maybe HD 7970 3GB.

thanks for the info
I have tried different resolutions, i think the main reason may be the poor
optimization. Even if i try in lower landscape settings there is little difference from high settings. Do you think it is worth upgrading the graphics card or should i just wait for better optimization?

S!

Try these settings in Catalyst Control Center, work on my 6970HD.

Antialiasing: Application Controlled, Morphological OFF, Standard mode
Anistropic Filtering: Application Controlled
Tessellation: Whatever you prefer, game does not use it. I have on AMD Optimized
Catalyst AI: Performance, Surface Optimization OFF
VSync: On, unless application specifies
AA Mode: Performance
Triple Buffer: OFF, but does not matter as an OpenGL setting

In game make sure to have Epilepsy Filter and SSAO set to OFF. Use Full Screen mode and check VSync. I also put grass OFF as it has a FPS hit. Effects on Medium look good with less FPS hit that High. Forest on Medium/Low. Texture size on High, Original has a performance hit.Building detail I have on medium and their density on Unlimited.

Follow Ataros' suggestions. No way can you play it in native resolution of 2560x1440 with higher settings than ultra low.

Thanks for the advice, I made some changes with ccc.
Does anyone know if i can upgrade my imac graphics card to something decent? I don't have the money for a gaming pc
Flanker, will the upgrade to the AMD 6970M 2GB instead of 1GB and/or an increase to 2x4GB RAM be worthwhile?

+ note that shadows and land shading have more influence than detail.

Extra VRAM may help a little but not with this res imho anyway. Maybe 2x HD7970 can handle this resolution it when x-fire is fixed.

Check out a link #8 in my sig and Performance section of this forums (sticky first).
