CTD when in menus

Hi, I bought CoD on sale, wanting to give a try even though I'd heard it was buggy. It looks really nice! I've been able to fly a couple of times, saw the strange pit colours so removed the epilepsy filter. but...

Already I have a problem - quite often, when selecting video options and almost always in the single player quick mission screen, the game crashes to desktop. Any idea if this is common and any suggested fixes? I have Win7, intel i7 920, 6gig of ram and a GTX560 OC Ti video card.

edit - just tried verifying the game files via Steam, no apparent change, it's definitely the quick mission menu that's flakey/very sensitive & crashes if I breathe wrongly
