Default Simplify aircraft id icons?

I dont need a sky full of long aircraft id strings out there...Is there a way to simplify the lettering that ids planes.. A blue or red colored dot would do nicely.

Secondly, i cant get my mouse to open any switches in the cockpit, especially the little window hatch in the stuka floor to see the target. Please help.

Red, blue dots would be good. Maybe something will happen in the future.

It is possible to change icon settings by adding a mp_dotrange command to the rcu file similar to original IL-2. Do not remember the parameters but you can search the forum for them.

Hi

The rcu file can be used for some shortcuts for CoD features like FPS counter and the icon types.

You need to have access to the "console" so assign a key for that in the settings gui.

find the rcu file and copy paste these lines in to it at the bottom.

The blue text is the string parameter you type in the console then hit enter.
The top 2 lines are to switch on/off the fps meter in game.

the second set of strings are the in game dot range and icon colours.
You can adjust the different numbers to suit your preference.

@a on fps START SHOW
@a off fps STOP HIDE

@a t1 mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 15 COLOR 0.75 TYPE 0.5 ID 0.5 NAME 1.5
@a t2 mp_dotrange FOE DOT 15 COLOR 0.75 TYPE 1.0 ID 0.5 NAME 0.50

Sugestion:

mp_dotrange FOE DOT 15 COLOR 0.99 RANGE 5 TYPE 0.001 ID 0.001 NAME 0.001
mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 15 COLOR 2.5 RANGE 0.001 TYPE 0.001 ID 0.001.0 NAME 5.0

For foe you see:

DOT distance default of game - 15 KM when you see only the DOT
At 5km you see the RANGE numbers and at 1 KM you see COLOR

For friendly:

DOT at 15, NAME at 5 and COLOR at 2.5 km.

In this setting COLOR tell you that planes are near.

So, for enemy you see only distance numbers, that chage color when near.

For frienly you see only the name of pilot, that chance color when near.

Since numbers/names appear at 5 km the bug of invisible plane at 2.5~3 km is no problem.

Since type, ID (useless) are not show this settings teaches you to recognize the aircrafts by the format.

BTW - I dont use icons at all - and dont play in online servers that allow then.

Default "Friend or foe is all i wanna know."

Thanks for the great info. It makes the game way better for me.
"Friend or foe is all i wanna know." works excellantly.

What i did 'for dummies'

I searched my c drive for rcu as no one told me where to find it. There were two. I opened both with notepad, and added the following at the bottom:

mp_dotrange FOE DOT 15 COLOR 0.99 RANGE 5 TYPE 0.001 ID 0.001 NAME 0.001
mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 15 COLOR 2.5 RANGE 0.001 TYPE 0.001 ID 0.001.0 NAME 5.0

Save the files and restart the game.
No more big info text all over the sky, but a more subtle marker that is easy on the eyes.

Thank you all
