clydebank blitz march 13th 14th 1941
The clydebank blitz refers to two devastating luftwaffe air raids on the shipbuilding town of clydebank in scotland which took place in march 1941
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clydebank_Blitz .................................................. ............................ am here back in my home country on vacation , catching up on old cultures and history times, did a few hill walks with my friend, we walked 13 miles over the kilpatrick hills, where in 1941 masses of ww2 german Ju-88s He-111 aircraft bombed clydebank , it was an industrial ammo making and ship building town during 1941,the germans codenamed the aerial bombing attacks operation gregor, this however was near the very limit of the bombers fuel range, many of the luftwaffe squadrons flew from holland and france. kilpatrick hills location wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilpatrick_Hills .................................................. ......... managed to find a good source of one german luftwaffe Ju-88 and the story how it came to rest along with the pilot and observer who are buried in lennoxtown scotland, some remains of this aircraft are still visible, but only a very few fragmented tiny aircraft parts remain at crash site. this crash site however was not on the kilpatricks, but a little town near them called lennoxtown village, the Ju-88 ditched in lennoxtown forrest, but back then in 1941 was clear hillside scottish moorland. ....... story of crash and link source http://www.aircrashsites-scotland.co...lairskaith.htm last but not least a great bbc documentry on the clydebank blitz worth watching, part 1 below Last edited by diveplane; 09-18-2011 at 11:45 PM. |

Thanks for the link... So many heartbreaking stories of courage and endurance by the common people in an extraordinary time... I can't comprehend how difficult it would be to stay mentally sound after one night of bombardment, never mind 6 years...
