![]() Polikarpov I-16 Flight Manuel By Cryptic Phant0m Section 1: The History Section 2: Basic Handling Section 3: Negative G’s Section 4: Tactics Section 5: Spec Data Section 1: The History The Polikarpov I-16 was a Russian fighter plane; it was the world's first cantilever-winged monoplane fighter with landing gear that was retractable. The I-16 was introduced in 1933 though it was first called the TsKB-12. It formed the backbone of the Russian Air force. The fighter, was nicknamed "Ishak" ("donkey") by Russian pilots, it was called the Rata ("rat") by the Nationalists and Mosca ("fly") by the Republicans. The Finnish nicknamed the I-16 Siipiorava ("Flying Squirrel"). Section 2: Basic Handling First off, make sure that your settings are at 100% Learning to fly at 100% is the best way to master this plane. The Polikarpov I-16 is a very sensitive plane to fly, sharp turns and banks will send her into a stall, sudden climbs will make her stall and fast pull ups from a dive will make her stall. There is only one rule with the I-16 “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” When handling the I-16 make slow (but not to slow!) movements. Angles effect your plane, too steep and she will stall. When banking, keep her at a nice 45 degree angle. When climbing make sure you peak your climb gradually and not suddenly. Recovering from a dive poorly will cause her to stall, a nice gradual recovery is best. Remember our rule! “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” Section 3: Negative G’s The I-16’s engine is very finicky, you can kill her engine by hitting Negative G’s. Climbing produces + G and Diving will produce – G. When you are climbing at a steep angle and you reach the peak of your climb and you lvl out, you will feel negative g’s. (Like a roller coaster!) You will kill your engine almost every time when you peak your climb, if not done properly. Section 4: Tactics This plane turns excellent, but lacks the speed to keep up with newer planes. If you can get in a turning match you will almost always win. If not, try to stay above the enemy so that you can swoop in and get out fast. Do not go head on, you have a fat nose which equals a bigger target! Section 5: Spec Data Performance Maximum speed: 525 km/h (283 kn, 326 mph) at 3,000 m (9,845 ft) Service ceiling: 9,700 m (31,825 ft) Rate of climb: 14.7 m/s (2,900 ft/min) Armament 2 × fixed forward-firing 7.62 mm (0.30 in) ShKAS machine guns in upper cowling 2 × fixed forward-firing 20 mm (0.79 in) ShVAK cannons in the wings 6 × unguided RS-82 rockets or up to 500 kg (1,102 lb) of bombs This was done in Realistic and Sim!

Hey Cryptic Phant0m thanks for posting this!
This little plane is very interesting indeed and fun to fly, well virtually anyway. I was so happy to see it in a movie I recently watched. The scene is rather short but it was done absolutely amazingly to the point that I was not sure if it was CGI (most likely it was) or real!!! Perhaps the I-16 was real and the pursuing Luftwaffe planes were CGI. There are also few scenes with Stukas attacking ground targets that are nothing short of amazing (I mean in a cinematic sense).
