Default The 14th winter for IL2 Sturmovik....

I still remember the winter of 2001-2002 when IL2 was young and what a sensation it was compared to older flight sims, how it wiped them all away, it has still not been eclipsed in that respect.

I remember when there would be close to a thousand people on HL almost every day of the week flying it.

The IL2 community and activity is a small shadow if it's glory days, that is indisputable.

As in 2001 I will be out there somewhere flying the few servers that still offer as close to realistic settings as can be found.

For a taste of IL2's glory days I recommend flying on Vinni Puh server that is based in Russia. It is not on Hyperlobby and it is not without it's faults but it is a lot better than 90% of the servers out there. I believe it is realistic settings with the addition of some kind of very limited icons which I don't agree with of course. You can go there and participate in the objective-based ground attacks, or soar high above the clouds dueling fighters for air supremacy. Join by direct IP at 212.192.155.118.

If you see me there say hello before you blow my wing off!

The settings are realistic with icons for friendly planes only. The server is always busy in the evening. Nice for some quick action.

It is hard settings but with very limited icons. A lot of the maps on this server have been running for many years, it is a good taste of how IL2 was online a dozen years ago.

Another thing to think about is that there may very well be someone out there flying IL2 Sturmovik that is younger than the flight sim itself! Lets have a show of hands.......

I got the desire to fly IL-2 again today, and I see this post right off the bat. Rather fitting I must say. I flew the skies on Hyperlobby from 2001-2009. Many times since I have gotten the urge to install the game and fire up HL, but it never materialized. So few people on HL it hardly seemed worth it. Plus it has been so long, and how would my ego take being a rookie again. But I think I am going to install it, drag out my old CH Hotas and pedals, and TrackIR and give it a try. Hopefully I can find all the patches and whatnot.

I have noticed IL-2 64 is available on Steam. I spend most of my time on Steam these days, and I was wondering if there is an online community there. If there is, how does it compare to HL?

I hope to see some old vets, of one of the greatest games ever created during my stay. I hope you are all doing very well in life.

Regards,

=HaVoK=
