I think that this guy has put together a (reasonably) usable design here...

He seems to have addressed many of the problems, with the "parachute type of air-car" design. The ground performance seems reasonable...it has a top speed of 90 mph, and decent 0 to 60 time. It doesn't have much of a "cabin", and I'm sure that their has to be some sacrifice in comfort, when riding in the cold and wet. The "mast" used in flight, seems to be a rather clever solution to the problem of deploying the wing for flight. I hope it catches on...his motivations seem honorable, I wish him good luck.

like the idea and I'm sure his dad would be be proud if only he were alive........ I assume he's best friends with the ones that killed his dad. Thats special.
